FOCUS

The focus of this project is to acquire sound evidence on which to base future organisational decisions about communication and networking processes.

This will be done through investigating the use of web 2.0 tools:

1. to support VET teachers and students as learners

2. to facilitate workplace communication about VET teaching and learning issues

3. in supporting industry and TAFE networking opportunities.

SUMMARY

VET in Schools: Web 2 4U has been designed to support a group of VET teachers and coordinators in the Parramatta Diocese, as they engage with Web 2.0 tools for their own learning and development and for the learning of others (both teachers and students.)  The tools will also be used to support teachers and coordinators in their professional interactions with each other (workplace communication, knowledge sharing and peer support.)

CONTEXT

Web readers can access our blog, wiki and this NSW Learnscope project page to learn more about our project.  We also hope to be active in other online spaces, and contribute as the project (and our learning) progresses.

TARGET GROUPS

We are working with three target groups across our range of projects:

1.  Stage 6 (Year 11 and 12) IT VET students

2.  VET teachers – using web 2.0 tools to support classroom learning and professional collaboration

3.  VET cluster coordinators - using web 2.0 tools to support professional collaboration and workplace communication

WORK BASED LEARNING STRATEGIES

Project team members are creating their own plans, individually or in teams, based on the needs and interests identified in their school/work context.  They are supported by Pat and Melinda in this process (including visits to school sites).  These plans will be uploaded to our wiki. <<attach link to wiki>>

ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES

At this early stage, our outcomes will be known as “the things that might happen” because we just don’t know what we don’t know.

1.  We will have acquired sound evidence to make decisions for the future

2. VET teachers and students will have been active participants in investigating personal, social and organisational uses of social networking tools

CLIENT / INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT

Our learners are the three groups described above, and they will be involved either through the trialling of new work practices or new learning opportunities (depending on context.)

IMPACTS ON LEARNERS / CLIENTS

We will aim to provide evidence through links to learner ‘products’, and via multimedia recording/reporting (Flickr collection, digital story to conclude.) Each individual/team will also be choosing methods to collect data over the life of their project.  These methods are detailed in their project plans on the wiki. <<attach link to wiki>>
